MY STORY
It’s no surprise my career path took me on the media route. Music has always been a significant influence in my life. My parents could sing and dance. Their vinyl collection was incredible and as a family, my sisters and I would play music every day and put on the odd floor show for our parents and visitors. Our ‘stereo’ systems were always improving and we were so proud of our dad when he went all out buying an amplifier and speakers that shook the house and the neighbourhood could hear really well!
Radio was always in my life, BBC in the car with dad for the news then rapidly switched to an FM station for the latest music once the news was done. When I was around age 10, I’d listen to music in bed on my transistor radio (the tranny), under the covers when I should have been asleep. I used to wonder at how artists would come into the studio and perform their music with such frequency when they clearly didn’t come from New Zealand. My dad had to explain this all to me and then all was good in the radio listening world. I got it. And I loved the British music NZ radio stations favoured but Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 was a weekend listening ritual. Radio was under my skin.
